War of the words
As a dyslexic, I have a love and hate relationship with words.
I love them for the stories they can tell. How they evoke emotions, transport people to new places. But I hate them for how hard I find to spell them. I hate that when I'm passionate about something my mind often leaves out the core word, so the entire meaning of the sentence is lost (sorry if I have done this to you, at least you know I'm really enthusiastic ;) )
So, I surprised myself by falling in love with one. Kaizen, it’s Japanese that means ‘continual improvement’.
I think it's really liberating. If we adapt our mindset and view life and business through the Kaizen lens then we can never really fail. Life and business are simply about observation, learning and iteration.
As start-ups, we don’t have the same budgets as our competitors, so it makes acting with an iterative mindset even more vital. We need to use every opportunity to get in front of our customers to test, ask questions and learn and evolve. Experiment, hypothesise, A/B test different creative hooks and messages. Detach yourself from the outcome and instead look at it as a powerful way to get as much data about your customer as possible and this will allow you to continuously improve both your product and your marketing and ensure that you are giving them something of true value.
