September always brings feelings of going back to school, summer fun is over and now it’s now time for focus (although from my school reports this was not always strictly the case).
And I always feel like a strict teacher when I ask this question, how is your planning going for Q4 and 2022? But, like a strict teacher, it comes from a good place and I do it for a reason. As challenger brands, you don’t have the budget to outspend your competitors but you can outsmart them and be more creative. But this takes time. I recommend that you plan 70% of your marketing activities, then leave the final 30% as open to jumping on ideas.
This planning is not at a micro level, I’m not talking about planning the exact social post that you are going to make on April 27th 2022, but all the initiatives/campaigns/partnerships that you are going to be doing to deliver your business strategies. And here lies the magic words. Business Strategy.
When used correctly Marketing is the vehicle for unlocking business growth, it is about reaching your customers and showing how and when you solve the problem that they have. This needs to be single-minded and consistent. Have objectives and SMART goals.
When considered tactically Marketing becomes, well just noise. Random bits of stuff thrown at the target customer hoping it sticks.
